This design proposal redefines the traditional columbarium by integrating it into a spiritual family space centered on the theme of "Family Reunion · Cultural Continuity." The innovative columbarium design transcends mere ash storage, transforming columbarium niches into cultural vessels within a symmetrically planned layout. The proposal includes a central worship area with smart retractable altars, a cultural exhibition zone with digital genealogy walls, and artifact cabinets that blend seamlessly with the columbarium units. By combining modern technology with profound cultural symbolism, this columbarium design aims to strengthen familial bonds, ensure cultural continuity, and create a dignified environment for commemoration and education. I. Design Concept  

This proposal centers on the core theme of **"Family Reunion · Cultural Continuity."** Through spatial reconstruction and the integration of cultural symbols, it aims to create a spiritual family space that combines the functions of a **columbarium**, private worship, and cultural heritage. The design transcends the traditional single-function attribute of ash storage structures, transforming them into cultural vessels that carry family history and strengthen emotional bonds.

 II. Spatial Planning and Functional Zoning  

**Central Worship Area (Symmetrical Layout)**  

- *Circulation Design*: A loop-shaped path with a central aisle width of 1.8 meters to ensure wheelchair accessibility and facilitate ceremonial activities.  

- *Facilities*:  

  - Smart retractable altar (with built-in **columbarium**).  

  - Dual-mode storage system: UV disinfection + room-temperature preservation.  

  - Touch-controlled offering platform (supports virtual projection of offerings).  

- *Cultural Symbols*:  

  - Traditional wooden shrine backdrop adorned with family totems and portraits of ancestors.  

  - Floor tiles with lotus patterns, symbolizing the family’s pure heritage.  

**Cultural Exhibition Area (Side Walls)**  

- *Digital Genealogy Wall*:  

  - Embedded display panels showcasing a family tree, complemented by handwritten family mottos in calligraphy.  

  - Audio guide system narrating family stories such as "Four Sons Competing in Filial Piety."

  - Entrance area (handwashing, registration) → Central courtyard (main worship space) → Inner hall (family archives and historical exhibits).  

**Extended Educational Functions**  

- Regular "Family History Lectures" and activities promoting family values.  

- A scripture-copying desk for descendants to handwrite family mottos and reflect on their heritage.  

**Cultural Integration in Worship Rituals**  

- Ceremonies presided over by family elders, following traditional etiquette.  

- Use of physical offerings such as fresh flowers, tea, and wine to enhance the authenticity of the ritual.  

 IV. Simulated Usage Scenario  

Example of a Qingming Festival Worship Process:  

- Family members enter the space in order of seniority.  

- The **columbarium** area in the central courtyard gradually unfolds, with soft lighting illuminating sections corresponding to each generation.  

- The altar is set with items beloved by the ancestors; family members bow, offer incense, and present tea.  

- After the ceremony, attendees watch a film about the ancestors’ lives while elders share family stories.  

 V. Design Summary  

This proposal adheres to the principle of "Culture First, Technology Second," combining traditional craftsmanship with modern technology to achieve a deep integration of the **columbarium**’s functionality and the family’s cultural spirit. Key features include:  

- *Cultural Depth*: Spatial layout, materials, and symbols drawn from traditional ancestral hall culture.  

- *Continuity*: The **columbarium** system supports intergenerational expansion and updates.  

- *Educational Value*: Integration of genealogy, artifacts, and rituals to strengthen younger generations’ sense of identity.  

- *Solemnity*: A dignified and warm atmosphere that respects and commemorates ancestors.  

We recommend developing supplementary materials such as family memorial booklets and ceremonial guides to further enrich the cultural experience.
